Portland Closet Company proudly sponsors The Street of Eames, an annual modern homes tour that recognizes some of the city's best examples of mid-century modern and contemporary modern residential architecture throughout Portland. Street of Eames was created to raise money for kids’ programs at two Portland Public Schools that are most seriously affected by homelessness. Chapman and Beach Elementary Schools are committed to helping those children most directly impacted by our economic recession by offering them a safe, caring and reliable place to be. "Project Return” is a before and after school program providing needy kids with a more nearly equal elementary school experience. It includes everything from hygiene & student supplies to clothing, tutoring, and language assistance as well as many other specialized services, which were all on the chopping block when budget cuts threatened to take the program away.
Thanks to the creative idea of one Chapman mom and the devotion of dozens of volunteers and sponsors, the Street of Eames tour has grown into a powerhouse of support. Raising $56,000 in Sponsorships and Donations, Nearly 54,000 in Ticket Sales and over $13,000 in Events and T-shirt sales, Street of Eames has tapped into Portland's keen interest in residential modernism to bring Project Return over $123,000 in support in 2009.
